A Pivotal New Moon in Cancer, Opposing Pluto

Today’s new moon is in it’s home sign of Cancer, opposing a retrograding Pluto in tough-as-nails Capricorn, squaring the nodes and Chiron which rules our karma and our wounds/healing path, respectively, and then makes some harmonious aspects to both Uranus and Neptune.

Imagine yourself at home, curled up on the couch with a cup of chamomile tea and your favorite show. Then you get a call from your mom - she needs you to pick her up because her car broke down. It starts to rain. You hate to drive in the rain, it scares you because you once got into a horrible car accident while it was raining when you were a kid, but you have to go because your mom needs you right now and you’re all she’s got.

So you go and help your mom, driving in the rain and all, and it’s as stressful and horrible as you thought. She tells you how grateful she is that you were able to help and that she can always rely on you when she needs you.

That’s the feel of this new moon.

We’re being asked to step up a bit and face some heaviness from the past, possibly with family. This new moon is asking us for a bit of a reset, and while we may want to reset by curling up on the couch, we may have to confront something that feels uncomfortable but will help us grow. Lean into things that feel challenging and uncomfortable, especially if it feels like you’ve already been there before. The New Moon Opposing a retrograding outer planet (Pluto in Capricorn) wants us to settle some business before we can really move forward in a way that works really well for us. While Cancer is a soft, intuitive water sign, it’s also a cardinal sign that likes to move forward, but the wisdom with this water sign is that moving forward without learning from the past means we’re doomed to repeat past mistakes.

The cycle we’re moving into is asking us where we want to go and is helping us see why we want to go there. If we’re feeling like we can never reach our goals, we may now see why we aren’t reaching them. We may learn what’s lurking just below the surface that slams on the brakes every time we near a breakthrough.

Today is not so much a time for action, as it is a time for feeling, observing, reflecting, and understanding why you are where you are.  You’ll go farther if you take the time to listen before you move forward.
