Why Mercury Retrograde is Good, and a Full Moon in Pisces

Astrology provides us with a story of reality, and there are countless interpretations of those stories. Including Mercury retrograde.

As I edited this horoscope I was actually laughing to myself over how Mercury in Virgo it is. My Mercury is a fellow earth sign and Virgo is my rising sign, so you can trust that this horoscope comes straight from the heart.

The planets teach us things that we need to learn. Sometimes even the brightest of us simply don’t see a situation for what it is, and a transit can pull the blinders off. Sometimes terrible things happen that have absolutely no explanation, astrological or otherwise. That’s not what I’m writing about today. What I want to get across to you is that astrology does not have to be scary, and that you are more a more powerful agent in your own life than planets that you will never touch or visit and usually cannot even see with your own eyes.

Transits help us grow. Retrogrades in particular are about growth through reflection, review, and revision.  Whenever I have found myself feeling scared of transits, I know it’s because I’m not in a good headspace and I’m in a disempowered place. It has happened, I’m human. But this is not my approach to astrology at all.

Astrology gives me space from the emotional seesawing that often comes from looking for an absolute truth or answer to a conflict. It’s an interpretation of stories that live within us and around us. We get to choose the arc we take. We live the narrative that we choose. When we are dealt a bad hand, we choose how move through it. The planets do not choose for us, they just provide us a blueprint of circumstances, which mirrors what’s going on with us internally.

Mercury going retrograde is a common occurrence. It happens about three times a year and lasts about three weeks. It generally stays in the same element throughout the course of a year and so that element is a big theme for the year. This year that element is earth. Practical, logical, strategic thinking is a theme, especially with our current Mercury in Virgo.

This Mercury retrograde is an especially nice one, as it’s giving us lots of time and space to make solid decisions from a grounded place before we make any big changes. I hope you’re all looking to the Virgo area of your chart and seeing the stories that are being awakened by it. Mercury in Virgo is so helpful and comfortable. If you’re having a hard time with it, I suggest asking yourself a few questions:

1. Are there any ways I’m trying to force something or speed up a process rather than accepting it’s natural pace?

2. Where am I not seeing reality clearly? Where are my emotions coloring my reality and skewing my discernment? Virgo is all about discernment and logic, so if you are a very emotional person by nature, this may be a theme for you with Mercury Retrograde in Virgo.

3. Where can my mind be freed from the past patterns that have always made my reality feel bleak?

The Sun is also opposing Saturn in Pisces and today’s full moon in Pisces will be conjunct Saturn, so expect the most challenging aspects of your life right now to have some light shed on them. Clarity is what we can focus on to use the current energy as a force for good and for growth.

We all have patterns that can be broken and shifted. We are never too far gone. As long as you are here, your life has meaning. It’s up to you to make it what you want to make it.

There is always hope to rewrite the most painful parts of your story into a beautiful one when you are willing to see what’s in front of you as a gift. Life is a gift, and you are a gift to the world especially when you see it as such.

Astrology readings and understanding what our current transits are can give us great clarity into our circumstances as it provides a mirror to our reality. What we bring to that reality is what  determines how the story plays out.
